Euronext Amsterdam opens at 09:00 and closes at 17:40, Monday through Friday. The exchange runs a single continuous session. No lunch break. No afternoon reopen. The 8-hour 40-minute trading day is longer than the NYSE's 6.5 hours but shorter than some Asian exchanges.

The opening auction runs 08:55-09:00. The closing auction starts at 17:35, with the closing price set at 17:40. Orders placed outside these windows sit in the order book but do not execute until the next auction.

Euronext Amsterdam and London Stock Exchange Overlap

Full overlap. London trades 08:00-16:30 GMT/BST. That is 09:00-17:30 Amsterdam time, year-round. Amsterdam's extra 10 minutes (17:30-17:40 CET/CEST) is the only period when London is closed and Amsterdam is open.

Every London trading minute is also an Amsterdam trading minute. Comparing prices, volumes, or volatility between the two means looking at the same window. The 10-minute tail is the sole exception.

Euronext Amsterdam and New York Stock Exchange Overlap

Partial overlap: Amsterdam 15:30-17:30 equals New York 09:30-11:30 EST/EDT. Two hours of the NYSE's six-and-a-half-hour session.

The NYSE opens at 09:30 New York time, which is 15:30 in Amsterdam. Amsterdam closes at 17:30, which is 11:30 in New York. The overlap covers the first two hours of the US session and the last two hours of the European session.

For US-traded stocks with Euronext listings, this two-hour window is when both markets are live. European news drives the open. US economic data, released at 14:30 or 15:00 CET, lands mid-session for Amsterdam.

Euronext Amsterdam and Asian Markets

Tokyo: zero overlap. The Tokyo Stock Exchange trades 09:00-15:00 JST, with a lunch break 11:30-12:30. That is 01:00-07:00 CET or 02:00-08:00 CEST in Amsterdam. Amsterdam opens at 09:00. Tokyo closed hours earlier.

Hong Kong and Singapore: marginal. Hong Kong trades 09:30-16:00 HKT, which is 02:30-09:00 CET or 03:30-10:00 CEST. The last 15 to 30 minutes of Hong Kong's session overlaps with Amsterdam's opening auction at 08:55-09:00. Singapore is identical to Hong Kong on UTC offset: both UTC+8, no DST.

Trading Asian markets from Amsterdam means working on delayed data or waiting for the European open. No live price discovery happens between Asia's close and Europe's open.

Euronext Amsterdam Holidays and Early Closes

Euronext Amsterdam follows the Dutch holiday calendar. When the Netherlands closes, Euronext closes, even if other European exchanges stay open.

Key dates for 2026:

Date Holiday Status
1 January New Year's Day Closed
3 April Good Friday Closed
27 April King's Day Closed
25 December Christmas Day Closed
26 December Second Day of Christmas Closed

Christmas Eve (24 December) and New Year's Eve (31 December) typically close at 14:00 CET. No other regular early closes exist on Euronext Amsterdam.

US holidays do not affect Euronext. If the NYSE is closed but Amsterdam is open, Euronext trades normally. A Dutch holiday means no trading in Amsterdam regardless of what New York or London does.
